Nationals' Magic Number To Clinch Division Is 21

After the completion of the Aug. 30 games, the Washington Nationals' magic number to clinch the National League East division title is 21.

The Nationals defeated the Seattle Mariners, 3-1, Aug. 30, while the Atlanta Braves lost to the Miami Marlins, 4-0.

Jayson Werth put the Nationals on the board with a two-run home run in the first inning, and Stephen Strasburg pitched 7.2 innings of one-run baseball to earn his 11th win of the season.

The Nationals' record now stands at 77-57, and Washington has a seven-game lead in the NL East.

Up next, the Nationals take on the Mariners in Seattle Aug. 31 before heading to Los Angeles for three games against the Dodgers starting Sept. 1. The Braves continue their home stand against the Marlins Aug. 31 followed by a three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Washington Nationals last won the NL East division title in 2012, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in the National Leage Division Series.
